TODAY'S SMILE
THIS WEEK
The Pleasant Valley Historical Society was founded in 1964 and opened its museum in 1988. Dedicated to serving the community by preserving the history and sharing our rich heritage, the museum structure on Las Posas Road is currently under renovation, but many of the monthly or annual events carry on. Telling us more about the museum's progress and events will be PVHS President Joy Todd.

AT OUR LAST MEETING
Last week, Emily Fairfax, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science and Resource Management at CSUCI, told us that no only do Beavers build dams, but they also dig channels and change small streams into broad wetland areas. Through their normal day-to-day behaviors, they create uniquely disturbance-resistant landscapes and ecosystems. These beaver-modified patches of the landscape enhance biodiversity, improve water quality, and reduce damage from wildfire, drought, flood and more.
Also last week:  thanks to President Laurie for another memorable entrance, in the Halloween costume she would have worn had she not been stuck on jury duty for a month. Here's a video, if you missed the meeting:  https://youtu.be/he2BtGhiDG4 Glad to have you back, Madam President!
CHILDREN'S HOLIDAY PARTY
The Children's Holiday Party is one of our club's happiest traditions. Past President Mike Andonian explains how it began:

"When I was Club President for the 1989-1990 Rotary year, I asked the members for ideas about a new community service project for our club. Past President Hank Crockett proposed doing a holiday party for less fortunate children in our area. Our club did the first one in 1989 through coordination with the Pleasant Valley School District. The club has held the party almost every year since. The only years missed were 2020 because of the pandemic and one or two years when the privacy laws changed and the school district was not able to allow timely disclosure of eligible students."

This year's Children's Party will be on Thursday, December 15th from 3 to 5 PM at the Boys & Girls Club of Camarillo. Gretchen Cook is coordinating volunteer efforts, and she will have signup sheets at Wednesday's meeting.
INCREASE YOUR IMPACT
Max has called our attention to this message, explaining how we can help Rotary and save on taxes at the same time. (Note:  the link in the picture for downloading the form does not work—use this link instead to get the form.)
