As most of you know, Sue and I are moving to Eugene, Oregon on May 6th to be closer to our older daughter and her husband. However, I'm not leaving the club (Camarillo Rotary will always be my "second family"), so I'll continue writing the bulletin and maintaining the website after the move. The Hub will be on vacation for the next two weeks, though, until my computer is up and running again at our new house. Thanks for your patience.
David Simmer will address the issues of life on the Navajo Reservation—the reasons for as well as the extent of the water poverty that exists there. He will also present the work of DigDeep—how they learned of the problem and the work that they have been doing to resolve it. As 2019-2020 District Governor for District 5495 (northern and central Arizona) David used that platform to raise the level of awareness of the water poverty tragedy in the Navajo Nation. He will recount how Rotary has engaged in the effort and supported DigDeep with a series of global grants, including future global grants.
Last week, we had an interesting, live-on-site program about Mono Lake from Rose Nelson, Education Director of the Mono Lake Committee. She told us that Mono is an ancient saline lake located at the eastern edge of the Sierra Nevada mountains, and is home to trillions of brine shrimp, millions of birds, and the world-famous Tufa Towers. The shrimp are the only animals that live in the lake, and estimates are that the total number of them would equate to 1000 for every person on the planet.
Rose also described the successful legal fight that stopped excessive diversions of water to Los Angeles, protecting Mono's delicate ecosystem. To learn more, visit the Committee's website at https://www.monolake.org/

5/19 J. Allan Danelek Was the first UFO “flap” in modern times really evidence of extraterrestrials or could it have been an example of an early but hidden man made technology? Author and researcher J. Allan Danelek looks at the issue in his book The Great Airship of 1897 and demonstrates how it might well have been evidence of both human ingenuity and mysterious tragedy being played out for a national audience. His book, along with his many other works and various paranormal and spiritual writings can be found at www.ourcuriousworld.com and www.quest4spirit.org.
